Monica Rose Smith, LMSW

My deepest wish is that we may all be free of suffering. I believe those seeking therapy know that this freedom is found by entering into our pain. We need to feel it fully in order to transform it into strength and joy. Fortunately, we do not have to walk this path alone.

As a psychodynamic therapist trained in EMDR and Zen practitioner with decades of meditation practice, I offer mindfulness and somatic strategies along with a gentle encouragement to turn towards your innate resilience. My collaborative style means that I deeply listen while providing a grounded space and solid presence, as well as offering skills and techniques to assist you in finding your own grounding and self-determination.

I have experience working with those suffering from anxiety, depression, PTSD, intrusive thoughts, and self-esteem issues, as well as romantic life and family issues. My specialty is life transitions. Whether you are mourning the death of a loved one or coping with grief from the loss of a job, relationship, ability, lifestyle, etc., each of us deserves the space and support to sort through these challenges, as well as tools to help us cope. You are not meant to face your pain alone, and I would like to offer my support on your journey to realizing wholeness.

I have an LMSW from Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter, CUNY, as well as an MDiv from Union Theological Seminary. These dual degrees complement one another as I work towards being of service as a therapist. Coming from a strong spiritual background allows me to remain grounded in my work helping others to navigate life’s challenges and, ultimately, heal.
